I became seriously interested in bridge in 1979 and played so much bridge that I won the McCutcheon Trophy – the award for winning the most masterpoints in a calendar year in Australia. I was the first woman to win the title, and the youngest winner, aged 20.

I first represented Australia at Women’s bridge in 1981, where the event comprised five teams. (Now the same event has 24 teams/countries competing!) It’s now nearly 40 years later and I’m still addicted to the challenge of this incredible card game.

I won my first national title in 1979 - Gold Coast Pairs. My husband Howard and I then won the Gold Coast Pairs in 2013 – a 34 year break between victories! One of my proudest achievements was qualifying for the Australian Open Team in 1998, with Elizabeth Havas (my cousin). We are the only women’s pair to have represented Australia at Open bridge.

I have always enjoyed writing about bridge, contributing to the ABF Newsletter.
Ron Klinger invited me to be one of the seven columnists for the ABF’s Daily Bridge Column, and I have really enjoyed bringing my ‘chatty, educational’ style to more keen bridge players. Many of you have been extremely generous in your compliments, so I have decided to start my own Weekly Bridge Column. I chose ‘weekly’ because I received comments that it was challenging to keep up with the daily columns. I hope you enjoy my offerings.
